There was the signal she hoped she’d never see. Grinning at her. Rocking gently in the wind as if walking to the sky.

But green shoes with orange laces on the highest message line had only one meaning. Her whole body involuntarily shivered. A river of cold sweat soaked the neckline of her sweater.

The others would be an ant-like marching line. Purpose embedded spirit-deep. Drones in a work-trance of industriousness.

She had her own drone-job. To fling high onto the message line coded instructions hidden in the colors of the shoes and laces.

She felt tired. Incapable. Wanting the bliss of sleep. The comfort of not knowing that green shoes with orange laces hung from the message line.

So boldly, so clearly spelling revolution. Initiating chaos.

She took one last look at a serene world, and threw her first pair of shoes: indigo blue with deep violet laces.

The war, the revolution had begun.
